“Being an orthodontist is the greatest job I could ever have. I get to spend my days helping people attain a healthier, more functional, and more beautiful smile. But best of all, I get to have FUN while doing it! Gone are the days of ‘scary’ orthodontics; patients in our office can expect a warm and caring environment provided by our team ... and terrible jokes from me.” — Dr. Tomson
Dr. Derek Tomson is proud to be an alumnus of both St. Gabriel and Notre Dame here in Burlington. He attended the University of Guelph, where he earned a B.Sc. in biological sciences, and the University of Ottawa for his M.Sc. in epidemiology. He researched the genetic links in adult brain tumours. Realizing that a career in the oral healthcare field would enable him to make a significant difference in people’s quality of life, Dr. Tomson attended the University of Western Ontario for both his Doctorate of Dental Surgery and Master of Clinical Dentistry in orthodontics.
Dr. Tomson enjoys connecting with his patients on an individual level, and working with them to accomplish their goals for a beautiful smile that lasts a lifetime. He continually strives to improve his skills and provide better care through his professional affiliations with Invisalign®, the Burlington Dental Academy, Ontario Dental Association, Canadian Association of Orthodontists, and American Association of Orthodontists. He also holds a teaching position at the University of Western Ontario Schulich School of Medicine & Dentistry and is a fellow of the Royal College of Dentists of Canada.
